The partnership base for this project combines the scientific expertise of international research organisations and the in-depth field knowledge of grassroots non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) are non-profit scientific organisations supported by governments, private foundations and international organizations. IWMI and ILRI belong to the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR), an alliance of research centres dedicated to agricultural research in developing countries. Both organisations strive to enhance poor people’s well-being.
IWMI’s mission is to improve water and land resource management for food, livelihoods and nature. IWMI works through collaborative research with many partners in the North and South and targets policy makers, development agencies, individual farmers and private sector organizations.
ILRI works to reduce hunger and poverty by improve the agricultural systems in which livestock are important. ILRI generates knowledge and technologies designed to reduce poverty, hunger, disease and environmental degradation in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
ICAR is an autonomous national organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, which conducts and promotes research and training in the field of agriculture and allied sciences. The ICAR scientific contribution to the project focuses on breeding and management practices of livestock. The ICAR also provides support for conducting fieldwork and liaising with government officials in Haryana.
BAIF Development Research Foundation is anon-profit, public charitable trust that has for mission
to create opportunities of gainful self-employment for the rural families, especially disadvantaged sections. They notably lead programmes on livestock development and watershed and land resources development. They received the India NGO Award 2008 in the category of large NGOs by Resource Alliance, United Kingdom, and the Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust.
PRADAN is a voluntary organisationwhich aims at impacting livelihoods to enable poor rural communities. PRADAN works towards enhancing the livelihood capabilities of the poor and giving them access to sustainable income earning opportunities. They are particularly known as being pioneer in the promotion of Self-help Groups in India. They received the Ramon Magsaysay 2009 Award in the Philippines for their work on human development in Asia.
BAIF and PRADAN act for the project as local support partners in Uttar-Pradesh and West Bengal respectively, liaising with communities and local government agencies.
